Message from President Cordelia Anthony
Happy New Year FFT! I hope you had a relaxing, restful and enjoyable holiday break! I also wish you a very prosperous 2023. A new year brings it with so much potential and possibility so I encourage you to stay motivated and seek happiness.
I know that everyday we are doing our best to be there for our students and inspire in them a love for learning. Our jobs have never been easy and we have had some trying years in the recent past, but all of that has highlighted how much we are needed, how our daily contact with kids makes a difference, and how much we actually do for our students and colleagues day. We are all still dealing with differences in students and families than we have ever seen and definitely a need for mental health focus for both students and staff. “Critics believe that social-emotional learning is about indoctrinating students, which is wholly inaccurate. Social-emotional learning is about teaching students about empathy and how to self-regulate their behavior so they can better deal with stress and anxiety.” In 2023 there will still be an ongoing attack on public education and the fact that we are charged with equitably educate ALL students and in some places it will continue to be an issue playing out in schools, and at school board meetings and in communities. Despite this I know we will do our best to take care of ourselves and our students. Continue educating and encouraging critical thinkers and who want to make the world a better place.
I know many of you interested in retirement counseling have spoken to our First Vice President, Brian Reilly, but I'm also reminding you that if you submit notice by February 1st you are rmeigivke to receive an additional $500 retirement stipend. Please make sure you have spoken to TRS, district Human Resources and Brian before submitting a letter.
Lastly I have seen you rocking your FFT Gear on Fridays. I understand every Friday is not possible in each building because you have special events and special days and I know you’re also wearing your building and Daler gear. I want you to keep it up every Friday and show your solidarity with each other because at times we have to be our own cheerleaders. We are excited to work alongside you this coming year, and I thank you again for sharing your wisdom and for your commitment.
