NYSUT Update on Mandatory Testing

Following the March 2 end of the statewide mask mandate for K-12 schools, NYSUT is requesting that Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration assess the current efficacy of mandatory testing requirements for K-12 staff who have not provided proof of vaccination. In the same way NYSUT sought an off-ramp for masks in advance of the state’s decision, we are seeking to share with the administration the voices of members who are similarly asking about an off-ramp for the state’s mandatory weekly testing policy. The state has made tremendous progress since the height of the winter surge, and we continue to look to the scientific experts for guidance on when it’s appropriate to review existing requirements and make changes.
